As we begin another week, we just want to keep you in the loop with what’s going on here on the farm!
We just got a new batch of laying pullets. They will be starting to lay their first eggs within the next few weeks. Pullets are female chickens that have not begun laying eggs yet. Our older hens are just over 2 years old and are not laying very many eggs anymore. As we transition, we may not have very many eggs available, so please be patient. The pullets are maturing as quickly as they can!
Since the sunflower season has now ended, we have about a half acre of matured sunflowers full of seeds. The chickens love these as a snack! We have been cutting the flowers and putting them in the pens for the chickens and they eat every seed!
In more professional news, Mendy & I (Elaina) have enrolled in a business development class through the Galion-Crestline Area Chamber of Commerce. The Commerce partnered with NC State and we jumped at the opportunity to grow our professional business skills. We love to take every opportunity to sharpen our skills and develop new business strategies to keep our business moving forward.
Don’t forget that we have goodies in our Harvest Hut! We have Bank Barn Candles Co. candles and wax melts, Miller Farms maple syrup & honey, Uncle Ricks spices, and more! We are also a pickup location for Busy B Bakery! If you have food allergies she is a wonderful resource for you! She also has the most delicious ‘regular’ baked goods. They smell wonderful! We want to thank you for your continued support as we work to grow out communities food-chain. We hope you continue to seek out local producers for your families! Our communities can thrive when we build food independence and local food security. Remember to order ahead if you’d like to fill your freezer! We are booking into February for beef, and December for hogs! If you don’t need bulk orders, keep your eye our for bundles, or just place an order “ala carte”! |
